Florida VIN Verification Procedure Changes Florida DMV offices have been notified of recent legislative changes to the procedures for VIN Verifications. Out-of-state dealers will no longer be able to use their letterhead to provide verification of a vehicle’s VIN number. The new Florida requirement is to verify the vehicle’s VIN using a sworn affadavit or Florida Form 82042. The Florida Department of Revenue has publised the Sales and Use Tax on Motor Vehicles guide (GT-800030) to help explain what is taxable in the State of Florida. It is the job of each Tax Collector Agency in Florida to properly apply the statutes and apply the appropriate State sales tax and County discretionary tax to the selling price of the vehicle, and including separately itemized charges or fees from the transaction. Form GT- 800030 outlines that sales taxes will apply to accessories, doc fees, freight, handling, commission and any other expense or cost of the dealer.
